We all have been given a gift. It’s that thing we’re best at that doesn’t take a great deal of effort. We can apply that gift in all areas of our life—work and otherwise. We can use our gift in many different ways. We can use it to help people.
Not sure what your gift is? To discover your gift, look at your past successes. Is there a common thread? Another way to pinpoint your gift is to ask your friends and family what characteristics of yours stand out to them. The benefit of finding your gift is twofold: it can help in doing work you love and have passion for and it will expand you in other areas in your life.
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
To use your gift effectively you will want to pair it with skills you have developed. Using your gift with your skills will maximize your productivity and make best use of your time. If your gift is problem solving, you could use it with skills like investigating, research, product development, and sales. Your gift and skills can also help develop multiple streams of income. Instead of developing one product, you can build multiple products that require different skills and still use your gift. With multiple skills and your gift as your foundation, you can build your empire.
Let’s take a look at Steve Harvey, who speaks to this topic in his book Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success: Discovering Your Gift and The Way to Life’s Riches. Steve Harvey has multiple TV shows, a radio show, writes books, and other ventures. Harvey has said his gift is making people laugh. That is not the only thing he does, but he does use humor to advance his career and create multiple streams of income. If a show or product of his fails, he has others that continue to provide for him.
Find your gift and develop skills that will enhance your gift. Learn to use your gift to your advantage and to prosper.
